PhysioMRI is leading the development of low-field technology that makes accesible, compact and diagnostically effective MRI possible, designed to go where traditional equipment cannot

PhysioMRI, a Spanish company pioneering in the development of innovative technologies in the field of medical imaging, is leading the ambitious Next MRI Project, whose main objective is to transform traditional magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) into a more accesible, affordable and mobile tool. Through the development of low-field portable MRIs, this Project aims to democratise Access to diagnostic imaging, overcoming the physical, logistical and economic limitations currently imposed by conventional MRI.

For decades, MRI has been one of the most powerful tolos in medical diagnosis, thanks to its ability to generate detailed images of soft tissues without the use of ionising radiation. However, their application remains restricted in many contexts due to the size, cost and complexity of traditional equipment, which relies on high-field superconducting magnets requiring special installations and liquid helium cooling systems.

In contrast, the company is committed to a radically different approach: the use of low-field magnets, which are lighter, cheaper and safer. This type of magnet makes it possible to dispense with the expensive infraestructura of high-field systems, while significantly reducing the size of the equipment, thus enabling portability. This feature is key to extending the use of MRI beyond large hospitals to rural health centres, mobile units, conflict áreas or regions with limited resources.

One of the main challenges of the Project has been to optimise image quality in low field conditions. To this end, the PhysioMRI team is developing innovative solutions that integrate AI and advanced reconstruction algorithms to compensate for the intrinsic limitations of the low field and ensure an adequate diagnostic level.

In addition to its clinical applications, the medical imaging device opens up new possibilities in the field of medical research. Its compact design also facilitates maintenance, reduces energy consumption and lowers operating costs.

In short, this portable MRI not only represents a significant technological breakthrough, but also promotes a more equitable and sustainable vision of healthcare. By making MRI more accesible and flexible, PhysioMRI is laying the groundwork for a future in which cutting-edge medical technology is available to everyone, everywhere in the world.
